Since I am a jazz performance major, and since jazz is always diving into new musical territories, I want to study the mash-up genre of music. Since Danger Mouse's monumental 2004 work, "The Grey Album," the genre has been significantly growing in popularity.
I hope to, as part of my project, create a mash-up of my own. This will allow me to learn the most about the creative aspect of the genre, as music creation is the main part of my major. Because I doubt a mere creative work is academic enough, I hope to then use my creation to explain something meaningful in an academic way. Here are two things I can do with my creation:
Argumentative
I am exploring . . . the mash-up genre of music
because I am trying to find out . . . how easily one is created
in order to prove . . . the genre as the wave of the future in music as we become a remix culture.
Interactive Pedagogical
I am exploring . . . the mash-up genre of music
because I am trying to find out . . . the process behind creating one
in order to show . . . others the process of creation to encourage it as a valid art form.
Final thought:
The Eagles + The Red Hot Chili Peppers = Hotel Californication

You're closing in on it - I'm not sure mash-ups (at least the one you want to produce as a musician for a thesis) are that easy to produce, collage is an art form, so I'm not sure your conclusion works for sentence one. I'm not sure you can prove it as a valid art form. Try another approach - what is it that YOU can express only using mash-up. What does the mash-up form/genre offer that other forms don't? What are you trying to express and why is that the only way or, at least the best way, you can do it? Show us + tell us.
