I am studying/creating/researching:
Because I am trying to find out:
In order to show how:
But it is difficult.
I want to make an internet-based art/animation piece, something like this maybe (but of course totally different):
http://www.nfctd.com/
The concepts in NFCTD are more about connections between anatomy, history and the natural world, explained through human curiosity, or something like that... It's purposefully elusive... I think.
Themes I'm thinking about all revolve around fantasy/dreaming states in people or different perceptions.
amputation/ghost limbs - significance/ideologies
schizophrenia as a gift - reality as malleable
the past and the future as imaginary creations manufactured by the present
the quest for immortality/ love of death, fear of death
speed/singularity
ugliness/ordinariness - the lens of artistic context
the faith needed to understand the abstract and symbolic- language/math/science etc.
rebellion against the brain
acceptance... of people, places, change. Mostly change, since it's time-based...and I like time...
All these are pretty nebulous... it's hard for me to formulate an idea without knowing the structure I want to present it in.
Some ideas for structure:
-- mini-narratives of different media (film, animation/still photography) - the structure/order of which is changed at each viewing
-- viewer decides the speed at which things are viewed, but normal speed is not an option. also, strobing images that must be put together by the viewer... make sense? (it does in my head)
-- one scene, then various strings of meanings or layers that can be added to produce different cognitive results - some resulting in different pathways, maybe
-- i sort of want to make something in 3-d :)
-- incorporation of outmoded technologies and new technologies (virtual daguerreotypes? wtf)
-- a camera on the computer - the viewer's movements determining where they go/what happens in the project
So, that's what I've got so far. Can't really figure out the "because" or "so what?" parts of it. I hope those emerge soon. Any comments or suggestions much appreciated.
Your loving classmate,
Anastasia

Great brainstorming, your next job is to begin to narrow your focus. There's a hint in the statement, "...and I like time." would couple well with "viewer decides the speed at which things are viewed, but normal speed is not an option..." You could apply these to any of the items on your list, but "acceptance of change" is particularly apt. Try to write a statement with that combination, but don't stop there, try to write two or three with different combinations from your list.
